The Story

SeoSitemap.app was built out of frustration. As web developers and SEO specialists, we kept reaching for tools that were either too expensive for a quick check, hidden behind forced registrations and dashboards we never wanted, or slow to the point of being useless on anything bigger than a single page. A weekly health-check on a 200-page site would eat an entire afternoon.

What we actually wanted was simple: paste a sitemap URL, get back a colour-coded table of every page on the site with the most important on-page SEO data, and be done in under five minutes. No signup, no monthly fee, no nineteen-tab dashboard. Since that tool didn't exist, we built it ourselves — and put it online for free.

The first version covered just H1 detection. Over the months we added meta tags, link health, content cannibalisation, the heading hierarchy audit, CSV export, and the interactive SEO checklist. We use the tool ourselves before every site we launch.

The problem with most SEO auditors

The SEO tooling market has a strange shape. At the top there are powerful crawlers — Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Ahrefs Site Audit, SEMrush — that do beautiful, deep audits but cost real money and assume you're an SEO professional who'll spend an hour in their UI. At the bottom there are dozens of free "single-page" checkers that show you a vanity score for one URL and not much else.

The middle is missing: a free, no-signup tool that audits an entire site on the basics that matter for technical SEO — headings, titles, meta descriptions, canonicals, redirects, alt text, language attributes — and shows the results in a table you can sort, filter, and export in seconds. That's the gap SeoSitemap.app sets out to fill.

How we use the tool ourselves

Every site we launch — including this one — gets audited with SeoSitemap.app before it goes live. We dogfood it because the only way to spot real-world edge cases (weird sitemap shapes, slow CDNs, accidental noindex tags in templates) is to use the tool the way a stranger would. When a check feels useless in our own audit, we remove it. When we wish we had a check we don't, we add it. The product road map is, more than anything, our own audit wishlist.

What's next

A few things are in active development or planned:

• Visual heading tree per page — a clickable outline showing where the H1→H6 hierarchy breaks down.
• Beyond 500 pages — a paid tier for agencies and larger sites, with credits rather than monthly subscriptions.
• PDF reports with optional white-labelling, for agencies who want to hand a clean deliverable to clients.
• Editorial content — long-form articles on the SEO topics the scanner touches (headings, canonicals, cannibalisation, TTFB) so the site is genuinely useful even when you're not scanning anything.
